Mabon DIY: Dried Orange/Apple Garland

Updated: Sep 17, 2020

Hi there! Whew..I actually got this done in a timely manner!

Did you know that Cinnamon has all kind of properties when used in Magick? Not to mention the feeling it gives you when you walk into a home and instantly are hugged by the aroma, you don't need to believe in all the sparkles and jazz too benefit from one of these dried garlands hanging around for the holidays!

You might have seen these puppies around the Christmas time or

Yule, with Cranberries and grapefruits! This project is so versatile for decorating and costs close too nothing if you have the basic Witchy ingredients in your apothecary and some colorful twine you can honestly make dried garlands out of any fruit. In this Tutorial Ill be showing you how too get this feel good decor for the holidays, this one was made specifically for Mabon (Sept 21), (Another topic for

another place) and Samhain(Oct, 31), Its a gift for a friend who needs a little more protection in their life. Ill be pairing it with a painting for her at the end as well so stay tuned!

Materials Needed

3-5 Oranges/Citrus of your choice

15 Bay leaves

Dried Apples

1 bag of Cinnamon sticks

Arms length of Organic cord or twine

Large Embroidery needle

Foil (Optional)

Cookie Sheet

An Oven

5 1/2 Hours too spare

Instructions:

  1. Get your Apples and Oranges together and preheat your oven too 235 Degrees

I had around 5 oranges and 3 apples that

I cut and dried in this batch.

Whispering your Intentions into the fruit during the drying process only charges the spell and work more. Think of it as breading before you bake the oranges and let all that energy soak into them.

I like to cut the apples so they resemble a heart before drying.

2. Start Slicing em! Get them pretty thin but enough so when you thread the twine through it wont just fall apart. Make sure too use a sharp knife because oranges are NOT forgiving.

3. Once I finished Cutting them all up I pressed everyone for the excess juice came out too make drying a little faster.

4. By now your oven should be a dragons belly ready to fire up these magical fruits! Lay them all out on a sheet and slide them in, turning them every half and hour or so too prevent burning. (same for the apples)

6. While those dried I found myself wanting to add even more too the garland. Sometimes I dont question what the witch inside me wants. With that in mind I rummaged through some of my sons sensory toys and found these scrap birch wood branches from a job site his dad was at. Perfectly sourced wood for a perfect occasion! I proceeded to drill two holes in the top and bottom too be able to thread the twine through and began too carve in some protection ruins for the home ill be sending this gift too. (This step is totally optional but I like too be more than most.)

(Id also like too add just too make your atmosphere more welcoming and calm I used the scraps from the oranges and apples ect too make a stovetop smell good potion that lasts all day through the night!)

7. Once the Oranges come out of the oven and theyre ready, gather all the materials and line them up! Most wrap the cinnamon but I like too pierce through it then wrap it just to secure it. Other than that you're free too add whatever youd like however many times youd like. for this specific garland I was called too follow a loose 3 pattern

I garnished the rune in a gold paint I had beside my bed.

AND TAA-DAAAA

You have a beautiful decoration that's full of well baked intentions and thanks for the season.
